Dual Enrollment information

MTS Dual Enrollment

Marshall Technical School offers several career tech and academic dual enrollment courses through Snead State Community College. Dual enrollment is an opportunity for students to earn both high school and college credit at the same time while taking a college course. In order to participate, students have to meet the admissions criteria set by the college. Snead State allows students in the 10th, 11th, and 12th grades to enroll in dual enrollment courses. Participation in an MTS career tech program is not required in order to take dual enrollment courses at MTS (except for the nursing assistant program which is completed in conjunction with MTS' medical prep program).

Career Tech Dual Enrollment

Career tech dual enrollment programs are offered in cyber security and nursing assistant. Currently, a state grant is available to pay for the tuition and textbook costs for students who are enrolled in these career tech programs.

Students enrolled in the cyber security program are offered the opportunity to gain valuable skills in one of the nation's fastest growing careers. Cyber security is a high-demand field with 73% growth in online job openings. IT professionals with skills in cyber security earn $12,000 more annually than those without. Students who enroll in the program on the MTS campus have the opportunity to take the course in MTS's new cyber security lab. Cyber security courses taught on the MTS campus include CIS 161 (Introduction to Networking), CIS 280 (Network Security), CIS 171 (Linux I), and CIS 245 (Cyber Defense).

MTS medical prep students have the opportunity to participate in Snead State's dual enrollment nursing assistant (NAS) program. Spots in the program are awarded on a competitive basis based on the applicant's grade point average. Students who enroll in the program take the courses in conjunction with their medical prep courses at MTS. The program culminates with a clinical experience supervised by Snead State nursing instructors. Students who have completed the program have had an excellent track record of success in obtaining employment as a health care provider. The program is also an excellent opportunity for students who wish to continue their education in a registered nurse program.

Academic Dual Enrollment
